Remember when we had to ask around to find out any information about a person we were interested in? Oh, how to do so delicately, innocently, secretively, without true intentions being discovered. Heaven forbid if the one we asked about ever found out! Alas, we have matured and now have access to the internet.
Google search: Lacey Stinson
To my surprise, Lacey Stinson is a common name, mostly of younger women. That’s not him. There was a person by that name who was arrested in Florida on an assault charge. Surely, that’s not him! Images of Lacey Stinson the artist were not so common. There were only a very few of him attending an art or book related public function. A couple of citations related to his volunteerism with D.A.R.T. (Domestic Abuse Resistance Team). His website, which wasn’t even his name, had very little about himself or his art. Instead, it was filled with promotions for other artists, poets, writers and included a link to D.A.R.T. His humility and the way he put others before himself was obvious.
After a week, he finally accepted my Facebook friend request. Now to see what he is really like.
From reading his timeline, I found that Lacey is very intelligent and compassionate. He cares about the planet and society. He is articulate when it comes to sharing ideas, and by sharing ideas, he wants to understand what others have to say, as well. He digs deep into the studies of science and religion, and how the two affect each other in conversations. He is a man of contemplation. He struggles with depression. These qualities are reflected most in his earlier works of dark, moody landscapes and emaciated people. Yet, he does not dwell in despair as can be seen with some of his playful surrealistic works involving animals and potatoes. He is a complex personality, indeed. That’s him.
I was intrigued!
With a few weeks of online dialogue, text messages and phone conversations, he invites me over for dinner.
